Build the Project from Source

In this lesson, you will learn how to install the code for the next few projects from source. It may seem like a daunting task, but if you follow these commands, you will be able to create your very own code from scratch very soon.

Build from Source

Follow these instructions to get set up with the jetson-inference project, and run some powerful deep learning networks.

SSH into your Nano using PuTTy or terminal
Enter your password when prompted, and ensure that you are in a command line on your Nano.
Run these commands to make sure git and cmake are installed. You will be prompted to enter your password.
```
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install git cmake
```

Clone the jetson-inference project

git clone --recursive https://github.com/dusty-nv/jetson-inference
cd jetson-inference
git submodule update --init

In order to install the python packages, run this command.
```
sudo apt-get install libpython3-dev python3-numpy
```
Next, make a build directory to build your project into. Make sure you are in the jetson-inference directory before running these commands.
```
mkdir build
```
Change directories into build and run make to build the project.
```
cd build
cmake ../
```
While configuring, you will see the downloader tool. You can access this tool at any time using commands, so for now, leave the selections as they are.
You will also see the PyTorch installer. You do not need to install PyTorch, so if there is a star in one of these installation options, use the spacebar to un-select it, and press Enter to continue.
Once this finishes loading you should see a space to run commands again. Make sure that you are still in the build directory and run these commands
```
make
sudo make install
sudo ldconfig
```
When that is finished you will be able to run all the demonstrations and projects for the rest of this course.
